Peru - pre-'inca' ruins Sacsaywaman

Thought we would challenge ourselves physically and tackle the journey to these ancient ruins on foot.

The journey up the hill was pretty daunting from the bottom but the stairs were well-populated with benches to rest on. Luckily, we'd had a bit of time to get used to the altitude but we were still extremely breathless at the top.

A bit like Machu Picchu, the origins of these ruins are not fully understood so you are left to marvel at how these ancient structures have stood the test of time whilst more modern dwellings have fallen victim to earthquakes and the like.
