After El Calafate we had a micro stop in damp hotel in Buenos Aires. Early start to Salta in north west Argentina. We picked up a Chevvy and drove to Tilcara, the oldest recorded settlement in Argentina, situated in the beautiful and dramatic Quebrada de Humahuaca mountain valley.

On our first day we drove towards Chile until we arrived at Salinas Grandes, magnificent salt flats. You can see the salt flats as you approach through the mountains (the white in the distance on our second pic).

Although our underpowered Chevvy struggled up some of the steeper inclines we enjoyed the spectacular display of colour and geological landscapes.
