Our early start to see Serranía de Hornocal, commonly referred to as the 14 coloured mountain, was delayed by a flat battery in our battered Chevvy.

We battled with the various numbers and insurance-come recovery service and failed. Our very kind Airbnb host (who was on her day off) called both the recovery and our car hire service; in the end it was easier for her to engage a local mechanic. The mechanic's wife turned up on a moped with a battery and some jump leads. It cost ARP$150 (about £3) to get us going again.

I had my reservations about this 'must do' mountain. The journey involved an hour drive on a gravel road. Sian was keen, so we bumped along the terrible road in the wake of dust from the more robust 4x4s.

It was well worth the horrific journey. The surrounding mountains and El Hornocal were stunning.
